Day-by-day itinerary
Day 01 — Arrival in Paro & the river briefing Meet your guide and fishing host at Paro airport and drive along the Wang Chhu, with the water visible from the road almost the whole way. The afternoon is spent on the lodge lawn casting, working out the rods and reading the water before anything is asked of the river.
Day 02 — Wang Chhu: wild trout and the first rise A full day on the Wang Chhu near Thimphu, fishing clear water for brown and rainbow trout on a dry fly. Day 03 — River time & the conservation day A relaxed morning session on a private beat, then the afternoon with the local fishery department — an hour on conservation, catch limits and the community's monitoring work, run in a village school. It is the part of the trip most guests remember, and it explains why the fish are still here.
Day 04 — To Bumthang: the valley of four mountains Fly or drive to Bumthang, Bhutan's spiritual heartland, ringed by the four sacred mountains. Check in and walk Jakar's main street in the late afternoon, past the Jakar Dzong and the wooden shops of the craft quarter, before dinner of red rice, buckwheat and Bumthang's famous cheese.
Day 05 — Bumthang rivers: trout in the Kurkhar stream Small-stream fishing for brown trout in the clear water above Jakar, where the fish rise to dry flies in the cold, oxygen-rich flow. A slow morning in a landscape that has barely changed, then a walk to the mills of Bumthang, one of the most beautiful valleys in the kingdom.
Day 06 — Upper Mo Chhu mahseer & departure A final session on the upper Mo Chhu, where golden mahseer are targeted with heavy nymphs in the deeper pools. The fishing concludes before lunch, leaving time to return to Paro for your onward flight, with the national fishing licence and a record of the season's catch in hand.
